Welcome to the blog for the P.E.I. Kenya Youth Tour 2015.  We invite you to follow along in what promises to be a life-changing journey for a group of youth and educators from Prince Edward Island.

In July 2015, we will be travelling to Kenya as part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Farmers Helping Farmers. This grassroots organization has been working in eastern Africa since 1980.  Over those decades, Farmers Helping Farmers has contributed more than $10 million Canadian, including funds contributed by CIDA. Their projects are estimated to have touched the lives of at least 100,000 people in East Africa.  Wow!

Over the two weeks that we are in Africa, we will have the chance to visit many of the projects that Farmers Helping Farmers has underway in rural Kenya.  We will visit schools that are twinned with schools on P.E.I.  We will visit dairies that have benefited from help from vets at the Atlantic Veterinary College.  We will see cookhouses at schools that have been built with funds from the Souris Village Feast.  We will see water tanks and screened gardens built with funds raised by supporters of Farmers Helping Farmers.  We will learn firsthand how a small grassroots group of Islanders has made a difference in the lives of people in Kenya.

Before we leave, we will be preparing for our trip with the help of our coordinators Tammy Craig, Cara DeCoste and Stan Chaisson.  We will also be fundraising, of course. Click on Chase the Ace Crapaud to find out more.

We hope you will follow our journey here.

Asante.  Thank you.
